Women's Soccer Opens Nine-Game Road Swing This Weekend

CSU takes on local rival Saint Xavier before traveling south two days later to face Campbell

This Week: The Chicago State women's soccer team kicks off a nine-game road swing with a pair of contests this weekend. CSU begins its road swing Friday afternoon with a rematch of the "Battle of The Cougars" against host Saint Xavier at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field with a start time of 5 p.m. The Green and White then travel south to Buies Creek, N.C., for a Sunday showdown at Campbell that starts at 2 p.m.

Scouting the CSU Cougars: Chicago State opens its road swing with a 0-2 record after opening the Kevin Meek era last weekend at Kroc Stadium with losses to Idaho State (0-3) and Northern Iowa (0-5). Senior goalkeeper Gabby Klemp (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) leads the WAC with an average of nine save per game while also sitting in a tie for 10th place in the current NCAA Division I rankings. Sophomore midfielder Taylor Rankin (Dearborn, Mich./Edsel Ford) also leads CSU with six shots on the season.

Scouting the SXU Cougars: Saint Xavier, a NAIA school located on Chicago's far south side, kicks off its 2017 campaign with Friday's contest against CSU. Senior midfielder Hannah Bressner is the top returner for the Cougars as she tallied four points last season on a two assists and a goal, while junior goalkeeper Carly Bledsoe produced a .759 save percentage and 22 saves as a sophomore in 2016.

SXU History: Friday's game will be second meeting between Chicago State and Saint Xavier with CSU capturing a close 3-2 win at Kroc Stadium last year. Sophomore Mariela Alba (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) and Rankin each scored a goal in the contest, while senior Jordyn Stanberry (Grand Haven, Mich./Fruitport) produced her first collegiate point on an assist.

Scouting the Camels: Campbell comes into the weekend sporting a 1-1 record following a pair of close 1-0 games last week with a road loss at the College of Charleston and a home win over Appalachian State. Junior goalkeeper Erin Scott has tallied a .833 save percentage and a 0.67 goals against average for the Camels, and senior forward Haley Thoma produced the first goal of the season for CU in the Appalachian State contest.

Campbell History: This will be the first-ever matchup between Chicago State and Campbell.

Up Next: The Cougars continue their road swing with a pair of in-state contests next week against UIC on Sept. 1 (6 p.m.) and Eastern Illinois on Sept. 3 (1 p.m.).
