OPENING TIP: Chicago State men's basketball returns to the road on Tuesday night to begin its final three-game road for the calendar year 2017 as it takes on host SIU Edwardsville at the Valdabene Center in downstate Edwardsville for an in-state showdown that begins at 7 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU: The Green and White bring their 2-12 season record into Tuesday's battle at SIUE after dropping an 84-58 decision to Bradley Saturday afternoon in their return to the Jacoby Dickens Center with senior guard Montana Byrd (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) leading three CSU players in double figures with 14 points. CSU is led by junior guard Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) as he averages 14.2 points a game and has drained 87 percent (33-of-38) of his attempts from the free throw line. The team's top rebounder is senior forward/center Deionte Simmons (Detroit, Mich./Lewisville (Texas)) at 5.3 per game and is second in scoring with an average of 9.2 points per game, while senior guard Glen Burns (West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis Christian) currently averages 7.6 points and dishing out a team-best 3.8 assists per contest.

SCOUTING SIUE: Returning from an eight-day hiatus, SIUE comes into this week's action with a 3-6 record after capturing its second consecutive one-point win by defeating South Alabama at home, 76-75, as senior forward Jalen Henry recorded 32 points. The Cougars are paced by Henry's 17.4 points and nine rebounds a game in addition to shooting 47 percent from three-point range, while junior guard Daniel Kinchen is second in scoring at 15.4 points per game.

SERIES HISTORY: CSU and SIUE will meet for the eighth time on the hardwood with SIUE holding a slim 4-3 advantage, but Tuesday's contest will be the first meeting between the two schools in three seasons. The SIUE Cougars recorded a 63-38 win in the teams' last meeting in Edwardsville on Dec. 22, 2014.

DISHING A NEW CAREER HIGH: Burns has been dishing the rock at a good pace this season which included last Saturday's home contest against Bradley as he recorded a new career high for assists after posting nine helpers. The West Memphis, Ark., native has averaged 3.4 assists per game over CSU's last five while recording his fifth game of the season with five assists or better.

FACING IN-STATE COMPETITION: Tuesday's game at SIUE marks the fifth in-state opponent that Chicago State has faced this season. The Cougars have also taken on East-West, Northern Illinois, Northwestern and Bradley.

UP NEXT: Following a short break for Christmas, CSU returns to action on Dec. 27 when it travels to Madison, Wis., to face off against host Wisconsin at the Kohl Center live on ESPN U which begins at 8 p.m.
