Volleyball Closes Kansas Invitational with 3-0 Loss to Maryland

Freshman Sofia Gruden equaled a season high with four blocks against Maryland

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Chicago State volleyball team closed out the Kansas Invitational here at the Horjesi Family Athletics Center today after falling to Maryland in three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-14.
 
The Cougars (0-6) were led offensively by junior Juma Armando (Toronto, Canada/Archbishop Romero) and freshman Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) with five kills and four kills, respectively, while junior Kelsey Taylor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian School) dished out eight assists.
 
Senior Kiana Chaney (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek) paced CSU's defense with six digs and freshman Sofia Gruden (Washburn, Ill./Metamora) equaled a season-high with four block assists.
 
Gia Milana paced the Terrapins (5-1) with a match-high 19 kills and Kelsey Wicinski finished with 10 digs.
 
The Green and White heads south to Alabama next weekend with the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational, hosted by Alabama State, in Montgomery. CSU opens the tournament on Friday, Sept. 9 against Savannah State with the first serve set for 3:30 p.m., Eastern Time.
