Cougars Fall to UIC, 3-0, in Long-Awaited Return to JCC

Junior Kelsey Taylor led the Cougars against UIC in their home opener with 12 assists to go along with 11 digs and three service aces

CHICAGO – The Chicago State volleyball team made its long-awaited return to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center Tuesday night as it opened its home slate with a 3-0 defeat to city rival UIC.
 
After the Flames captured a 25-16 win in the first set, CSU (2-12) came back in the second set to battle the visitors in a back and forth affair before falling 26-24. UIC then closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the third set.
 
Junior Kelsey Taylor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian School) posted a double-double of 12 assists and a match-high 11 digs to go along with a match-leading three service aces to lead the Green and White. Junior Corey Davis (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) dished out 11 digs, while senior Dzeni Hadzisehovic (Belgrade, Serbia/First Private School for Catering and Tourism) and junior Juma Armando (Toronto, Canada/Archbishop Romero) finished with nine kills and eight kills, respectively.
 
UIC (12-2) was led by Alyssa Ehrhardt's match-high 15 kills, and Kelsie Groot contributed a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs.
 
The Cougars open Western Athletic Conference play this Friday night at the Jacoby Dickens Center against UMKC with the first serve set for 7 p.m.
