Cougars Battle Tough against Power Five Foes in First Day at KU Invite

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Chicago State volleyball battled tough versus a couple of Power Five Conference opponents during the first day of the Kansas Invitational here today at the Horjesi Family Athletics Center with a 3-0 loss (12-25, 8-25, 9-25) to fourth-ranked Kansas and a 3-1 defeat (25-21, 16-25, 19-25, 22-25) to Arkansas.

CSU was led by junior Juma Armando (Toronto, Canada/Archbishop Romero) in the KU match as she recorded a team-best six kills, while fellow junior Kelsey Taylor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian School) posted seven digs and freshman Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) dished out six assists.

Madison Rigdon tallied a match-high 11 kills and Annise Havili produced a match-best 24 assists to lead the Jayhawks (4-0) while both players notched three service aces.

Senior Dzeni Hadzisehovic (Belgrade, Serbia/First Private School for Catering and Tourism) paced the Green and White in its second contest of the day against Arkansas as she tallied a pair of match highs with 17 kills and a .444 (17-5-27) hitting percentage. Armando and junior Paige Eyring (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa) each contributed 10 kills.

Taylor nearly recorded a double-double as she had 23 assists and nine digs for Chicago State (0-5), while senior Kiana Chaney (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek) and freshman Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) equaled match highs with 14 digs and five block assists, respectively.

The Razorbacks (1-4) were paced by Danielle Harbin's 14 kills and also received a match-best 27 assists from Adrien Wohlschlager.

CSU closes the KU Invite tomorrow afternoon against Maryland from the Big Ten Conference with the first serve set for 12 p.m.
