Volleyball Closes ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational

Junior Thais Vieira nearly recorded a double-double against host Alabama State with 11 kills and nine digs while earning all-tournament team honors at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Chicago State volleyball concluded the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational here today with a pair of 3-1 losses to Troy (22-25, 16-25, 25-19 and 18-25) and host Alabama State (22-25, 16-25, 25-19 and 18-25) at ASU's Lockhart Gym.
 
CSU was led in the Troy match by senior Dzeni Hadzisehovic (Belgrade, Serbia/First Private School for Catering and Tourism) as she tied a career-high for kills with 18, while junior Kelsey Taylor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian School) nearly posted a double-double as she tallied 16 kills and eight digs. Senior Kiana Chaney (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek) finished with 11 digs, freshman Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) posted four block assists, and junior Juma Armando (Toronto, Canada/Archbishop Romero) contributed eight kills and two service aces for the Green and White.
 
Reina Terry recorded a match-high 39 assists for Troy (5-4), while Alicia Hinrichs posted a match-leading 18 digs and Jordyn Saulberry finished the match with 12 kills.
 
Hadzisehovic paced the Cougars with 12 kills versus ASU, freshman Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) dished out 19 assists and Chaney finished with 18 digs. Junior Thais Vieira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/ADN) recorded season highs of 11 kills, nine digs, three blocks and a service ace, while fellow junior Shedella Smith (Victorville, Calif./Hesperia) tallied seven blocks (five assisted, two solo) and Taylor recorded a match-best five service aces.
 
Krysta Medearis tallied a match-high 17 kills and Justus Tuiolosega posted a match-best 46 assists to lead the Lady Hornets (3-7).
 
Following the tournament, Hadzisehovic and Vieira were named to the all-tournament team.
 
CSU returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 13 as it travels to Macomb, Ill. to take on in-state rival Western Illinois at Western Hall with a start time of 6 p.m.
