CSU Volleyball Closes Memphis Tournament with 3-1 Defeat to Central Arkansas

MEMPHIS – The Chicago State volleyball closed out its season-opening weekend here this afternoon at Elma Rhone Fieldhouse after being defeated by Central Arkansas at the Memphis Invitational.

The Green and White captured the first set by a score of 25-22 before falling to the Sugar Bears in the final three sets – 25-22, 25-21 and 29-27.

CSU had four players produce double figure kills in the match, led by junior Juma Armando (Toronto, Canada/Archbishop Romero) as she tallied a match-best 16 kills with a .448 (16-3-29) hitting percentage. Senior Dzeni Hadzisehovic (Belgrade, Serbia/First Private School for Catering and Tourism) nearly recorded a double-double as she posted 12 kills and nine digs en route to earning all-tournament team honors. Juniors Paige Eyring (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa) and Arieta Vaimaona (Lauli'i, American Samoa/Faga'itua) each contributed 11 kills.

Senior Kiana Chaney (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek) posted a match-leading 20 digs and a team-best two service aces for the Cougars, while junior Kelsey Taylor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian School) dished out 24 assists. Freshman Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) added 19 assists and fellow freshman Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) notched four block assists.

Rachel Sharp led four UCA players that recorded double-digit kills with 15 kills, while Elizabeth Armstrong recorded a match-high 27 assists.

Next up for Chicago State is the Kansas Invitational next weekend in Lawrence, Kan. The Green and White kick off the tournament with a pair of matches on Friday, Sept. 2 against the host Jayhawks at 12 p.m. followed by Arkansas at 5 p.m.
