Cougars End First Day of Memphis Invitational with 3-0 Loss to Belmont

MEMPHIS – The Chicago State volleyball team ended the first day of the Memphis Invitational here at Elma Rhone Fieldhouse this evening with a 3-0 loss to Belmont by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-18.

CSU was led by senior Kiana Chaney (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek) as she tied for match-leading honors in digs with 11, while freshman Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) added nine digs and three service aces.

Senior Dzeni Hadzisehovic (Belgrade, Serbia/First Private School for Catering and Tourism) and juniors Shedella Smith (Victorville, Calif./Hesperia) and Arieta Vaimaona (Lauli'i, American Samoa/Faga'itua) each recorded five kills for the Green and White. Smith also posted a .387 hitting percentage (5-0-14) in the contest

The Cougars close out the invitational tomorrow afternoon against Central Arkansas with the first serve set for 12 p.m.
