Women’s Soccer Falls to Western Illinois, 3-1, in Home Opener

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's soccer opened the home portion of its schedule this afternoon at the Ray and Joan Kroc Stadium by falling to Western Illinois by a score of 3-1 to kick off a three-game homestand.
 
The Fighting Leathernecks broke open a scoreless tie in the 23rd minute when Bianca Romay's shot hit the back of the net after taking a cross pass from Mary Street for a 1-0 lead. WIU added goals in the 29th and 40th minutes to increase its leading margin at 3-0.
 
CSU got on the board in the 41st minute after freshman Madison Berg (Coatesville, ind./Cascade) served a one-time pass through the middle of the midfield to sophomore Brianna Leggett (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) who quickly beat her defender to score her first goal of the season to conclude the scoring.
 
Leggett and freshman Taylor Rankin (Dearborn, Mich./Ford) each recorded two shots to lead the Cougars, while junior goalkeeper Gabby Klemp (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) tallied saves on four WIU shot attempts in the second half.
 
The Green and White continue its homestand at Kroc Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 27 versus Saint Xavier with a start time of 1 p.m.
