Men’s Basketball Ends Season at WAC Tournament

LAS VEGAS – Chicago State men's basketball fought hard during its Western Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal showdown against CSU Bakersfield here Thursday evening at Orleans Arena, but the second-seeded Roadrunners used a second-half run to capture a 79-57 win.
 
CSUB jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first two minutes of the game on a jumper from Dedrick Basile before the Green and White went on an 11-3 scoring drive in a six-minute span to gain a 14-11 advantage on a layup from freshman Delundre Dixon (Rockford, Ill./Auburn).
 
The Roadrunners (22-8) later broke a 15-15 tie with a 20-8 run in over nine minutes to regain the lead at 35-23 with 2:21 left in the stanza, but CSU closed out the half with a 10-3 run of its own to pull within five (38-33) heading into halftime with Dixon scoring four points during the stretch.
 
An 18-7 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half gave CSUB a 56-40 lead with 10:20 remaining and cruised on to the win.
 
The Cougars (4-28) had three players score in double figures and were led by freshman Anthony Eaves (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) as he scored a team-best 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range.
 
Senior Jawad Adekoya (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) finished with 11 points in his final collegiate game and Dixon contributed 10 points. Junior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds with six boards coming on the offensive end.
 
CSUB also had three players that scored in double figures with Jaylin Airington and Aly Ahmed each tallying a game-high 16 points.
