CSU Men's Hoops Continue Road Swing Wednesday at Valpo

OPENING TIP – Chicago State men's basketball continues its 12-game road swing on Wednesday night as it travels to Northwest Indiana to battle host Valparaiso at the Athletics-Recreation Center in an ESPN3 live broadcast with a start time of 6 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – CSU heads into the final games of 2016 by sporting a record of 4-10 after completing the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic last week with a 74-65 win over Southeast Missouri State and an 83-65 loss to Troy in the Upper Bracket finals. Leading the Green and White is sophomore guard Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale), who is averaging 17.6 points per game and is tied with senior guard Clemmye Owens V (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers) for the team lead in steals at 1.1 a game. Senior guard/forward Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) has produced a team-best rebounding average of 9.1 boards per game in addition to scoring 14.4 points per contest. Owens V is scoring 9.6 points per game and junior guard Glen Burns (West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis Christian) is dishing out a team-high 3.5 assists a game.

SCOUTING VU – Valparaiso has amassed a 9-3 record so far this season while posting a 2-2 mark over its last four games following an 87-80 home defeat to Santa Clara on Dec. 22. Senior forward Alec Peters is recording team highs of 26.4 points and 10 rebounds per game while connecting on 93 percent of his free throw attempts to lead the Crusaders. Redshirt senior guard Shane Hammink is second on the team with 15.4 points a game and leads VU in assists with 2.8 per contest. The final VU player averaging double figures is junior guard Tevonn Walker with 10.9 points a game.

SERIES HISTORY – VU has posted a 29-3 all-time advantage in series with Chicago State. The Crusaders recorded a 71-53 victory over CSU in the teams' last meeting in Chicago on Dec. 11, 2015 with Kieran Woods (Chicago, Ill./Crane) leading the Green and White with 14 points.

NEW RECORD HOLDER – With CSU's win over SEMO last Thursday, seventh-year head coach Tracy Dildy surpassed legendary Cougar bench boss Bob Hallberg for the most Division I coaching wins at CSU with his 50th.

ALL-TOURNEY – Sims, Jr. was selected to the all-tournament team at the Las Vegas Classic after averaging 15.8 points per game over four games that included a 21-point performance in the finale against Troy on Dec. 22.

ROAD WARRIORS - Chicago State is closing out a stretch where it's playing 12 games away from home between Nov. 26 and Dec. 30. The Cougars have faced off against five in-state opponents (UIC, Western Illinois, Bradley, Northwestern and DePaul) during this stretch.

UP NEXT – Chicago State heads to Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Friday, Dec. 30 to battle host Central Michigan in an ESPN3 live broadcast with the opening tip set for 4:30 p.m.
