CHICAGO -

OPENING TIP – Continuing its 12-game road swing, Chicago State men's basketball travels north to Evanston, Ill., as it takes on Big Ten Conference foe Northwestern in a live broadcast on the Big Ten Network from NU's Welsh-Ryan Arena with a start time of 6 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – CSU opens this week's slate with a 3-5 record on the year after losing a close contest at Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon by a score of 45-43 despite receiving a double-double from senior guard/forward Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) with game highs of 16 points and 13 rebounds. The Cougars are led in scoring by sophomore guard Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) at 17.9 points per game. Palmer ranks second on the team with 14.3 points a game and is grabbing a team-leading 8.8 rebounds per contest while recording a team-high three double-doubles. Senior guard Clemmye Owens V (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers) is the third CSU player scoring in double figures with 10.8 points a game and is shooting 46 percent from the field. Junior guard Glen Burns (West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis Christian) is producing team leading averages of 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game on the year.

SCOUTING NU – Northwestern, winners of five of its last six since Nov. 21, has tallied a season record of 7-2 that includes a perfect 5-0 record at Welsh-Ryan Arena after posting an 83-49 home victory over New Orleans last Sunday. The Wildcats, like CSU, have three players recording double digit scoring averages with junior guard/forward Scottie Lindsey and redshirt sophomore forward Vic Law being tied for the team's scoring lead with 15.6 points apiece, while sophomore center Dererk Pardon is posting team high numbers of seven rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots a game. Junior guard Bryant McIntosh is averaging 12.4 points and dishing out a team-high 4.9 assists a game.

SERIES HISTORY – Northwestern has posted a 10-0 lifetime advantage over Chicago State after the Wildcats recorded a dominant 77-35 win last season at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Dec. 13, 2015. CSU was led in the game by Devon Friend (Joliet, Ill./Bolingbrook) as he produced 12 points and eight rebounds while shooting 5-of-7 from the field.

AIMING FOR A GRAND – Owens V is aiming to score 1,000 points in his Division I career as he heads into the NU contest with 835 career points in his Division I career at CSU and Bethune-Cookman. He is 165 points shy of achieving this feat.

LINEUP MAINSTAYS – Palmer and Sims, Jr. have been the only mainstays in the Green and White's starting lineup this season as both players have started all nine contests.

SIMS' SCORING MILESTONE – Sims, Jr. has achieved a scoring milestone as he tallied his 500th career point last Sunday at Saint Louis after connecting on a jumper at the 3:53 mark of the second half during a 10-0 run in the final five minutes.

UP NEXT – The Green and White return to action on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., as it faces city foe DePaul in the first contest for both teams of the 2016 Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. The game, which will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1, is set to tip off at 1 p.m.
