Sims, Jr. Leads CSU with Game-High 24 Points at UIC

CHICAGO – Sophomore Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Chicago State men's basketball team in tonight's road contest at city rival UIC, but the host Flames had four players score in double figures to gain a 74-58 victory at the UIC Pavilion.

The Flames, who held a 42-34 advantage at the half, would shoot 57 percent from the field and hold CSU to connect on 32 percent of its shots in the second half to seal the win.

Sims connected on 10-of-20 from the field and hit 3-of-4 from the free throw line for his second 20-point game of the season. Senior Clemmye Owens V (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers) shot 4-of-7 from the field to add nine points, dished out four assists and recorded three steals, while junior Deionte Simmons (Detroit, Mich./Lewisville (Texas)) grabbed a game-leading nine rebounds to go along with nine points.

Senior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) matched Simmons with nine boards and posted eight points, and freshman Patrick Szpir (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) notched a season-best three blocked shots.

Dikembe Dixon led UIC (4-3) with 20 points and Marcus Ottey contributed 15 points.

The Cougars continue their month-long road swing this Saturday afternoon at Western Illinois in an ESPN3 live broadcast from Western Hall in Macomb, Ill. The scheduled tip-off is slated to start at 2 p.m.
