Cougars Close Out 2016 Season with Homecoming Showdown against UTRGV

CHICAGO – The Chicago State volleyball team closed out its 2016 season here today at the Jacoby Dickens Center on Homecoming with a 3-0 defeat to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in the final Western Athletic Conference match for both teams.

Prior to the match, senior Dzeni Hadzisehovic (Belgrade, Serbia/First Private School for Catering and Tourism) was honored in a pre-match senior day ceremony before taking the floor in her final collegiate contest.

The Vaqueros captured the first set by a 25-22 margin then earned a 25-17 win in the second set before closing out the match with a close 25-23 win in the third set.

Leading the Green and White was junior Juma Armando (Toronto, Canada/Archbishop Romero), who finished with 11 kills on the day.

Fellow juniors Corey Davis (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) and Kelsey Taylor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian School) each dished out 17 assists, while fellow classmate Paige Eyring (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa) contributed seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage with four block assists.

CSU's defense was paced by freshmen Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) and Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) with 13 digs and five block assists, respectively.

UTRGV (18-13, 7-7) was led by Alisha Watson's match-high 16 kills and 39 assists from Dubravka Vukoja.

The Cougars concluded the season with a 3-26 overall record and finished 1-13 in WAC play.
