OPENING TIP – The Chicago State men's basketball team kicks off its 2016-17 season on Saturday afternoon for Homecoming as it welcomes NCAA Division III foe Illinois Tech to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center with the opening tip set for 4:05 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – CSU welcomes back 10 players from last season's team that includes three starters in seniors Joshua Batson (Chicago, Ill./Curie) and Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer), and sophomore Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) Sims, Jr. is the team's top returning scorer after averaging 10.9 points a game a year ago, while Palmer recorded averages of 7.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots per game last season. Other key returners are senior guard Clemmye Owens V (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers) and sophomore guard Anthony Eaves (Louisville, Ky./Ballard).

SCOUTING IIT – Illinois Tech returns 10 letterwinners and all five of its starters from last season which included its top returning player in sophomore guard Anthony Mosley, Jr. Mosley, Jr. was named a First Team All-American by the USCAA and captured Association of Division III Independents Rookie of the Year honors a year ago after averaging team-leading numbers of 19.7 points, 3.6 assists and two steals per game while connecting on 45 percent of his field goal attempts.

SERIES HISTORY – Saturday's game will be the second meeting between the Cougars and the Scarlet Hawks since CSU jumped to the NCAA Division I ranks, but both teams were consistent foes back in the 1970's and early 1980's as members of the NAIA's Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Green and White produced three school records in last season's 137-69 victory over IIT on Nov. 13, 2015.

WELCOME, NEWCOMERS!!! - In addition to its 10 returners, CSU has also brought in five newcomers on the roster this season in graduate student Brian Greene, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./Thornton), juniors Glen Burns (West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis Christian), Alex Dubovitskiy (Moscow, Russia/Marianapolis Preparatory School) and Deionte Simmons (Detroit, Mich./Lewisville (Texas)), and freshman Patrick Szpir (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling).

ROAD WARRIORS - Chicago State will be true road warriors during the holiday season as it will play 12 games away from home from Nov. 26-Dec. 30 with four of their games coming in mid-December with the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. In addition, the Green and White will play five in-state opponents during that stretch (UIC, Western Illinois, Bradley, Northwestern and DePaul).

UP NEXT – The Cougars hit the road for the first time this season on Thursday, Nov. 17 when it faces No. 9/10 Wisconsin at the Kohl Center in Madison with a start time of 7 p.m.
