This Week: The Chicago State volleyball team returns home to the Jacoby Dickens Center this week to host a pair of west coast opponents in Western Athletic Conference matches. CSU takes on Grand Canyon on Thursday night in its AVCA Dig Pink match beginning at 7 p.m., then hosts CSU Bakersfield this Saturday afternoon with the first serve set for 12 p.m.

Scouting CSU: Chicago State has amassed a season record of 2-15 with a 0-3 tally against WAC competition heading into this week's homestand. The Cougars dropped a pair of conference battles last week to Utah Valley (3-0) and Seattle U (3-0) on the road. Senior right side hitter Dzeni Hadzisehovic (Belgrade, Serbia/First Private School for Catering and Tourism) is leading the Green and White with 2.65 kills per set, while junior setter Kelsey Taylor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian School) has recorded 3.81 assists per set and 13 service aces. CSU's defense is led by senior defensive specialist Kiana Chaney (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek) with 2.98 digs a set and freshman Sofia Gruden (Washburn, Ill./Metamora) is the team's top blocker with 0.87 stuffs per set.

Scouting GCU: Grand Canyon comes to the Windy City with a 4-11 record and is also winless in WAC play at 0-3 following last week's home losses to UT Rio Grande Valley (3-1) and defending conference champion New Mexico State (3-0) that extended its losing streak to 10 matches. The Antelopes are paced offensively by junior outside hitter Natalie Tardy's 3.15 kills a set. Freshman setter Heidi Carpenter is averaging 7.43 assists per set to go along with 16 service aces, and junior middle blocker Hannah Hicks is recording 1.02 blocks per set. Freshman libero Emma Ahern is the team leader in digs with 3.07 a set.

Scouting CSUB: CSU Bakersfield brings a 5-11 record into this week's slate that includes a 2-1 mark versus conference opponents. The Roadrunners concluded a six-match homestand last weekend with a 3-0 loss to NMSU before knocking off UTRGV two days later by a 3-1 margin. Carol Grasso is averaging 3.65 kills and 3.17 digs per set to lead CSUB in addition to recording 21 service aces. Fabiana Andrade has produced a team-best 6.73 assists per set, while Jocelyn Rodriguez leads the team with an average of 3.26 digs per set.

Up Next: The Cougars head southwest next week for a couple of WAC matches that includes an Oct. 13 meeting at UT Rio Grande Valley in a live WAC Digital Network broadcast with the first serve set for 7 p.m.
