Armando Posts Career Night as CSU Falls to Seattle in Tight Five-Set Battle

CHICAGO – Junior Juma Armando (Toronto, Canada/Archbishop Romero) posted a career night for the Chicago State volleyball team as it returned to the Jacoby Dickens Center here tonight to kick off a weekend Western Athletic Conference homestand by falling to visiting Seattle in a tight five-set battle.

SU claimed a close 26-24 win in the first set and took a 25-19 victory in the third set, while the Green and White posted a 25-19 win in the second set and tied the match at 2-2 after capturing the fourth set by a 25-23 margin. The visitors concluded the night with a close 16-14 win in the fifth and deciding set.

Armando tallied career highs of 20 kills and 19 digs to lead the Cougars (3-21, 1-8), while redshirt sophomore Brianna Stewart (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) recorded a career highs of 13 kills and six block assists.

Junior Kelsey Taylor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian School) recorded 25 assists and a match-leading two service aces, senior Dzeni Hadzisehovic (Belgrade, Serbia/First Private School for Catering and Tourism) contributed 10 kills and fellow junior Corey Davis (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) added 19 assists.

Freshmen Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) and Sofia Gruden (Washburn, Ill./Metamora) led the Green and White's defense with 19 digs and nine blocks (eight assisted, one solo), respectively.

Katarina Marinkovic tallied 30 kills, 13 digs and two service aces on the night to lead Seattle (12-11, 5-5).

The Cougars finish off their homestand on Saturday afternoon with a WAC matchup against Utah Valley with a start time of 12 p.m.
