Cougars Close Out UIC Invitational

CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball concluded the second day of the UIC Invitational at the Flames Athletic Center on Saturday with a 3-0 (24-26, 13-25, 18-25) loss to Morgan State and followed that with a 3-1 (19-25, 20-25, 25-23, 19-25) defeat to host UIC.

Sophomore Corey Davis (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) produced 26 assists, eight digs and two service aces to lead the Green and White (0-6) against Morgan State. Sophomore Shontanae Addison (Little Elm, Texas/Wakeland) recorded 10 digs, while junior Elli Woinowsky (Berlin, Germany/Merian Oberschule) finished with eight kills and eight digs, and sophomore Arieta Vaimaona (Lauli'i, American Samoa/Faga'itua) contributed eight kills.

Arianna Hayden tallied match highs of 16 kills and three blocks assists for the Bears.

In the UIC match, Woinowsky paced the Cougars with 15 kills and three service aces. Vaimaona added 12 kills, and Davis posted a double-double of 34 assists and 11 digs. Addison recorded a match-leading 17 digs with seven assists to capture all-tournament team honors.

The Flames were led by Alyssa Ehrhardt's 16 kills and also received 52 assists from Nicole Johnson.

CSU travels to Georgia next weekend for the Bash at the Boro Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern. The Cougars kick off the tournament on Friday with matches against Winthrop at 2 p.m. and Tennessee State at 5 p.m.
