Cougars Fall at Eastern Illinois, 4-1, in Non-Conference Finale

Sophomore Jyllian Coggins tallied the first goal of the season for CSU at Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Chicago State women's soccer team concluded the non-conference portion of its 2015 schedule here this afternoon as it fell to host Eastern Illinois by a score of 4-1 at EIU's Lakeside Field.

The first half was a scoreless affair between the two squads until the 35th minute when sophomore Jyllian Coggins (Birch Run, Mich./Birch Run) scored the team's first goal of the year after receiving a pass from freshman Bri Kelly (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) at the top of the goal box and blasted a shot past Panther goalkeeper Hannah Vieth for a 1-0 lead.

EIU (2-6-1) then tied the score at 1-1 a minute and a half later after Hannah Miller scored from a pass by teammate Kathleen MacKinnon. The score remained tied going into the halftime break.

The home team added three more goals in the second half to provide the final margin.

Freshman Sarah Drury (Laingsburg, Mich./Saint Johns) recorded two shots for the Green and White, while sophomore Gabby Klemp (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) tallied six saves in goal and fellow classmate Taylor Conroy (Avondale, Ariz./Millard West (Neb.)) recorded two saves in nearly 15 scoreless minutes of play.

Chicago State (0-9) kicks off Western Athletic Conference play on the road with a Sept. 27 showdown at Missouri-Kansas City that will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network. The start time for the game will be 1 p.m.
