Cole Scores 17 Points for Cougars at Northern Illinois

Elliott Cole scored a game-high 17 points for CSU Wednesday night at Northern Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. – Junior Elliott Cole (Chicago, Ill./Powerhouse) scored a game-high 17 points for the Chicago State men's basketball team as it continued a five-game road swing here Wednesday night but dropped an 80-58 decision to host Northern Illinois at the NIU Convocation Center.

Cole shot 6-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, to lead the Green and White.

NIU (7-0) jumped out to a 39-24 lead at halftime after shooting 54 percent from the field in the first half and it used a 12-4 scoring drive in the beginning of the second stanza to cruise to victory.

Junior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) added 10 points and two assists for CSU, while freshman Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) added nine points and senior Devon Friend (Joliet, Ill./Bolingbrook) grabbed a team-leading six rebounds in his season debut.

The Huskies were led by Aaric Armstead's 14 points, and Marin Maric finished with a double-double of 14 rebounds and 12 points

CSU closes out its road swing this Saturday afternoon at Allstate Arena in Rosemont as it battles inter-city rival DePaul on Fox Sports One with a start time of 1:07 p.m.
