CSU Men’s Basketball Drops 77-35 Decision at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – Senior Devon Friend (Joliet, Ill./Bolingbrook) tallied career highs of 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the Chicago State men's basketball team as it dropped a 77-35 defeat to host Northwestern Sunday evening at NU's Welsh-Ryan Arena.

The Cougars claimed an early 5-0 lead in the first two minutes with senior Jawad Adekoya (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) scoring all the points, including a deep three-pointer at the 16:23 mark. NU then scored 31 of the next 39 points in a 15-plus minute span to capture a 31-15 lead at the half.

NU opened the second half with a 15-2 run in five and a half minutes to increase its lead at 46-17 that ended with a three-pointer from Bryant McIntosh at the 14:29 mark. The Cougars would get no closer the rest of the way.

Adekoya added nine points for the Green and White, while junior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) contributed seven rebounds and junior Joshua Batson (Chicago, Ill./Curie) dished out three assists.

Tre Demps recorded game highs of 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Northwestern (8-1).

CSU (3-8) closes out its two-game road swing through the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday evening at Minnesota in a game that will be broadcast live on ESPN 3 with a start time of 7 p.m., Central Time.
