CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball opened a three-match homestand at the Jacoby Dickens Center Friday evening by dropping a 3-0 (17-25, 14-25, 20-25) decision to visiting UMKC in a Western Athletic Conference showdown.
 
Sophomore Corey Davis (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) dished out a match-leading 26 assists for the Green and White, while junior Elli Woinowsky (Berlin, Germany/Merian Oberschule) added 11 digs, nine kills, two block assists and a match-best two service aces.
 
Junior Melina Staengle (Sindelfingen, Germany/Schickhardtgymnasium) matched Woinowsky with nine kills and sophomore Shontanae Addison (Little Elm, Texas/Wakeland) finished with a team-high 12 digs.
 
UMKC was led by Sydney Crimmins' match highs 14 kills and four blocks, while Taryn Miller posted a match-best 16 digs and Kaylyn Brandt finished with 21 assists.
 
The Cougars step away from conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 13 with a non-conference road battle at Valparaiso beginning at 7 p.m.
