Volleyball Ends Home Slate against New Mexico State on Senior Day

CHICAGO – The Chicago State volleyball closed out its 2015 home slate here Saturday after dropping a 3-0 (23-25, 18-25, 13-25) decision to Western Athletic Conference-leading New Mexico State at the Jacoby Dickens Center.
 
The Cougars were led by junior Elli Woinowsky (Berlin, Germany/Merian Oberschule) and redshirt freshman Brianna Stewart (Elgin, Illinois/Larkin) as both players posted a team-best six kills. Woinowsky also added two service aces and junior Melina Staengle (Sindelfingen, Germany/Schickhardtgymnasium) finished the match with seven digs.
 
Redshirt junior Jana Kunz (Olten, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Solothurn) produced 12 assists, five kills, five digs, two service aces and two blocks for CSU (1-24, 0-11). Kunz was honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match.
 
NM State (21-5, 10-0) was led by Nathali Castellanos, who recorded match highs of 11 kills and three blocks on the day. Gwen Murphy added 10 kills and Taylor Livoti dished off a match-leading 20 assists.
 
Chicago State kicks off a season-ending, three-match road swing on Friday, Nov. 6 with a WAC battle at Missouri-Kansas City with a start time of 5 p.m., central time.
