Volleyball Falls at Seattle in Five-Set WAC Thriller

Shontanae Addison tallied a match-best 21 digs at Seattle

SEATTLE – The Chicago State volleyball team battled tough here Thursday evening as it fell to host Seattle in a five-set (25-23, 25-22, 15-25, 27-29, 8-15) Western Athletic Conference thriller at Seattle Academy's Gymnasium.

CSU (1-21, 0-8) held a 2-0 advantage in the match before the host Redhawks took the third set by a 25-15 margin. The Green and White came close to ending the match in the fourth set before SU (13-8, 5-3) knotted the match at 2-2 and slipped through in the deciding fifth set for the win.

The Cougars were led in the match by junior Elli Woinowsky (Berlin, Germany/Merian Oberschule), and sophomores Corey Davis (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) and Shontanae Addison (Little Elm, Texas/Wakeland).

Woinowsky posted a match-best 15 kills and three service aces, while Davis produced her second straight double-double as she tallied a match-leading 36 assists and 10 assists. Addison produced a match-high 21 digs

Junior Melina Staengle (Sindelfingen, Germany/Schickhardtgymnasium) nearly recorded a double-double with 13 digs and nine kills to go along with three service aces, and redshirt freshman Brianna Stewart (Elgin, Illinois/Larkin) finished with eight kills.

Matea Mamic (16 digs, 14 kills), Martina Samadan (12 blocks, 10 kills) and Kerry Lane (28 assists, 10 digs) each recorded double-doubles to lead Seattle.

Chicago State closes out its weekend road swing this Saturday at Utah Valley beginning at 2 p.m., Mountain Time.
