CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball returned to Western Athletic Conference play on Thursday night at the Jacoby Dickens Center as it dropped a three-set decision to visiting CSU Bakersfield by scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-16.

The Green and White were paced in the contest by junior Elli Woinowsky (Berlin, Germany/Merian Oberschule) and sophomore Arieta Vaimaona (Lauli'i, American Samoa/Faga'itua). Woinowsky finished with nine kills and added four block assists, while Vaimaona recorded a season-best five blocks (one solo, four assisted).

Sophomore Corey Davis (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) dished out 23 assists, junior Melina Staengle (Sindelfingen, Germany/Schickhardtgymnasium) recorded six kills, and fellow junior Logan Miller (Palm Harbor, FL/Palm Harbor University High) posted five kills and four block assists for CSU (1-19, 0-6).

Redshirt freshman Brianna Stewart (Elgin, Illinois/Larkin) contributed seven kills and three block assists, while sophomore Corey Davis (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) dished out 12 assists. Junior Logan Miller (Palm Harbor, FL/Palm Harbor University High) and sophomore Arieta Vaimaona (Lauli'i, American Samoa/Faga'itua) each added three block assists.

Kelsee Sawyer tallied match highs of 15 kills and a .722 (15-2-18) hitting percentage to lead Bakersfield (6-12, 4-2), while Luiza Martins finished with 38 assists and Edithza Urias posted a double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs.

The Cougars close out their short homestand on Saturday afternoon at the Dickens Center with a WAC match against Grand Canyon with the first serve set for 1 p.m.
