Almost a third of the way through their inaugural season as a Division I program, the Chicago State Women's soccer team continues to grow and find their identity with each game that passes.
After a stretch of matches on the pitch that saw the lady Cougars fall to 1-5 on the season, they will continue their pursuit of continuity this weekend, as they hit the road and travel to play two matches in three days against Northern Illinois and Indiana State. Â
The first match will see the Cougars line up against the Huskies of Northern Illinois (1-4), at a neutral site of Commissioners Park in Naperville, IL on Friday evening (9/12) at 7:00 PM CST.
After a day off, CSU will then travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, and face off against the lady Sycamores of Indiana State (1-3-2) on Sunday (9/14), with the start time of that match slated for 1:00 PM EST.
Coach
Tony Tommasi, who is looking for his team to sustain their efforts in building as one collective unit, said about this coming weekend --
"We want to continue to grow competitively, and work hard for 90 minutes."In assessing his young team and highlighting some of his players who have shown early signs of unrestrcited competitiveness, coach Tommasi expressed --
"Alexis Montgomery, Megan Stapleton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira), Hannah Etcitty (Gallup, N.M./Middle College), Jyllian Coggins (Birch Run, Mich./Birch Run), Maddie Korus (Lexington, Minn./Centennial) and Katie Verheyen (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) have been playing with a tremendous amount of heart each time out."After their two games this weekend, the lady Cougars will then have a full week off, and find themselves returning to action the following Sunday at home against Eastern Illinois.
