Cougars Conclude WAC Opening Weekend Versus New Mexico State

CHICAGO – The Chicago State University women's soccer team concluded its opening weekend of Western Athletic Conference play here this afternoon with a 6-1 defeat at the hands of visiting New Mexico State at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Stadium.

The Aggies opened the first half by scoring four goals between the sixth and 39th minutes to head into halftime with a comfortable 4-0 advantage.

NMSU struck again in the 54th minute to increase its lead to 5-0. The scored stayed the same until freshman forward Jyllian Coggins (Birch Run, Mich./Birch Run) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year just four minutes later to put the Cougars on the board. Fellow classmates Vialy Garcia-Hernandez (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) and Megan Stapleton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira) provided assists on the goal. The visitors closed out the scoring with a goal in the 88th minute.

CSU travels west next weekend for a pair of WAC rematches beginning Friday afternoon at Texas-Pan American with a start time of 4 p.m., central time.
