Cougars Open WAC Slate with 1-1 Tie against UTPA

CHICAGO – Looking to start out Western Athletic Conference play on a good note, the Chicago State women's soccer team achieved a first en route to earning a 1-1 tie with visiting Texas-Pan American this afternoon at the Ray and Joan Kroc Stadium. The tie was the first in program history for the Green and White.

The Cougars (1-8-1, 0-0-1 WAC) held tight defensively against the visitors from the Lone Star State in the game's opening half with the Broncs recording 15 shots, including six on goal that were stopped by freshman goalkeeper Carrie Hepp (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper), who recorded 13 saves in the contest.

The CSU defense made sure the other nine shots were altered or blocked in making sure the score was tied at 0-0 by halftime.

UTPA (7-1-4, 1-0-1 WAC) took an early 1-0 lead in the 47th minute as Aimee Inthoulay scored off a pass from Sheridan Becancic for her team-best fifth tally of the season. The lead would stay the same until the 72nd minute when freshman forward Jyllian Coggins (Birch Run, Mich./Birch Run) scored her team-leading third goal of the year to knot the score at 1-1. Assisting on Coggins' goal were fellow freshmen Chloe Cain (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) and Hannah Etcitty (Gallup, N.M./Middle College).

Both squads had a couple of scoring chances during the two overtime periods that were stifled to preserve the tie.

The Cougars return to action on Sunday (Oct. 5) as they welcome New Mexico State to Kroc Stadium for a WAC contest beginning at 12 p.m.
