Cougars Close Short Homestand Versus WAC Leader Kansas City

Senior Julia Menhart tallied 13 digs for Chicago State in its WAC contest against Kansas City

CHICAGO - The Chicago State volleyball team closed out a short two-match hometsand tonight at the Jacoby Dickens Center with a Western Athletic Conference showdown against conference-leading Kansas City. The visiting Kangaroos claimed a 3-0 victory via scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-15.

The Cougars were led by freshman Sarah Metcalfe (Huntington Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) and senior Julia Menhart (Augsburg, Germany/FOS Friedberg), who respectively finished the contest with 18 assists and 13 digs. Junior Essence Jackson-Jones (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon) added five kills for CSU, while junior Selena Newell (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Pembroke Pines Charter) and sophomore Chinwendu Ngwadom (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) each contributed three blocks.

UMCK received a pair of 10-kill efforts from Jessica Hendin and Melissa Hartsel, and Taryn Miller produced a match-best 14 digs.

CSU travels to Kansas City for its second WAC meeting of the season this Sunday afternoon with the first serve set for 4 p.m.
