CHICAGO – In a match with 19 ties and 10 lead changes, Chicago State volleyball fell to Kansas City 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-20) in a Western Athletic Conference contest at the Jacoby Dickens Center on Sunday (Sept. 29) afternoon.

The Cougars and Kangaroos played within points of each other until late in all three frames before Kansas City made crucial plays to grab the lead.

The Cougars fell in the first set despite out-hitting the 'Roos .433 to .364. Senior
Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) started out on fire with five kills on 11 swings. The difference in the set came with the score tied at 20. Kills by Kansas City's Sydney Crimmins and Morgan Voorhes made it 22-20. Chicago State advanced within one point at 23-22 on a kill by junior
Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom). However a CSU service error and a kill by Emma Hagedorn gave the set to the 'Roos. The frame featured eight ties and four lead changes.

Set two had seven ties and four lead changes, however when Kansas City took an 18-17 lead on a Chicago State service error, they never looked back. It started an 8-3 run to end the set for Kansas City.

Chicago State trailed set three 12-7 until a 5-1 run put the Cougars within a point. Chicago State tied the score at 16 on a kill by
Chinwendu Ngwadom (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons). A Sioto kill tied it again at 17 before back-to-back CSU points put the Cougars up 19-17. Kansas City had already used both their timeouts but didn't need to call one to respond with an 8-0 run to end the Cougars' hopes.

Madeleine Radtke (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) hit .455 and a career-high 12 kills. Sioto also added 12 kills. Junior
Mia Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) averaged six digs per set thanks to notching 18 in the match.

Crimmins led Kansas City with 12 kills.

Kansas City improves to 8-6 (2-0 WAC). The Cougars are now 2-14 (0-2 WAC). Chicago State travels to Bakersfield on Thursday (Oct. 3) for the Cougars' first WAC road match of the year.
