TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Before opening Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Chicago State traveled to Indiana State on Tuesday (Sept. 24) for a non-conference match. The Cougars won the opening set 25-15 before falling in the next three 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 to drop the match 3-1.

Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) finished with 18 kills, one short of the career-high she set against Western Illinois on Nov. 1, 2010. She also added seven digs. Senior
Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) added 17 kills, tying thecareer-best she set against Saint Peter's earlier this season.

Chicago State wasted little time getting on the board in the first set. The Cougars scored the first six points and forced a Sycamores timeout after just four points. The visitors from Chicago opened leads of 9-1, 12-3 and 21-8. Junior
Mia Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) recorded two aces in the set. The Cougars hit .359 in the frame.

Set two was tied at 12 when Indiana State pulled away a 4-1 run. Set three turned in about the same spot when a 15-13 ISU lead was extended to 20-13. Set four was tied at 13 before Indiana State closed the match out.

Townsell added one more ace for three on the night to go with 12 digs. Junior
Julia Menhart (Augsburg, Germany/FOS Friedberg) also hit double-digit digs with 11.
Mackenzie Lotter (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) finished with 38 assists.

Morgan Dall had a match-high 21 kills for Indiana State.

Indiana State pulls to 7-6 with the victory. The Cougars fall to 2-12. Volleyball has the privilege of hosting Chicago State's first ever WAC contest on Saturday when Grand Canyon comes to the Jacoby Dickens Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT.
