Levitt Records 13 Kills In CSU Volleyball's 3-0 Loss To WIU

CHICAGO - Chicago State volleyball fell 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-23) to Western Illinois on Tuesday (Sept. 17) evening in a non-conference match at the Jacoby Dickens Center on CSU's campus.

Senior Rachel Levitt (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) recorded three of her 13 kills in the third set. Chicago State trailed 15-9 only to rally back and tie it at 17. The Cougars went on a 3-0 and a 4-0 run to get back in the match. Senior Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) notched seven kills in the third set, including a kill to tie it at 17. Western Illinois took the momentum back with three straight points only to see the Cougars score the next four and take a 21-20 lead. It was a Sioto kill for point 21. The squads traded points until another 3-0 WIU run put the Fighting Leathernecks up 24-22 and helped them eventually win the third set 25-23.
 
Levitt hit .379 (13-2-29) for the match. Junior Mia Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) finished with 16 digs for the Cougars.
 
Western Illinois out-hit Chicago State .402 to .173. The Fighting Leathernecks were led offensively by Ann Miller's 16 kills. Samantha Fournier recorded a double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs for WIU.
 
Western Illinois improves to 5-8 with the decision. Chicago State falls to 2-10. The Cougars are back at it in less than 24 hours when Wright State comes to the Jacoby Dickens Center for a non-conference match on Wednesday (Sept. 18). Take note of the 6 p.m. CT start time of the match.
