TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior
Chanel Wilson-Stewart (Hillside, Ill./St. Joseph's) recorded her third career double-double (14 points and 11 rebounds), however the Detroit Titans pulled out an 85-64 victory over the Chicago State Cougars at the Savage Arena during day two of the University of Toledo Invite.
Wilson-Stewart led the Cougars with her 11 rebounds and three blocks. Junior
Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) led CSU with 21 points and finished one rebound shy of her second consecutive double-double. Junior
Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) added in 20 points off the bench.
The Titans opened the game on a 10-0 run, but
Angela Jackson's squad managed to cut the deficit to six at 15-9 after
Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville)' jumper at the 15:20 mark.Â
Detroit began to pull away in the first half as Megan Hatter's layup with 7:47 left stretched the Titans' lead to its largest of the first half at 33-17. Chicago State answered back with seven points, making the score 33-24 with 6:18 remaining after a
Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville)' layup.
The Cougars went into the locker room trailing 45-38 at halftime.Â
After some back and forth action to begin the second half, the Titans pushed their lead to 14 after two free throws by Hatter, making the score 61-47 with 12:20 to go. The Cougars cut the deficit to single digits several times over the next few minutes, but got no closer than nine.
Hatter finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds for Detroit in the victory. Ellisha Crosby added a game-high 24 points while Senee Shearer chipped in 20 points for the Titans.
Detroit moved to 3-7 while Chicago State fell to 1-8. The Cougars are back in action on the road against the Southern Illinois Salukis on December 20
th.
