OREM, Utah – Chicago State volleyball was upended at Utah Valley on Saturday (Oct. 5) 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 26-24) by the Wolverines. Saturday's match was the first meeting between the two former Great West Conference foes as members of the Western Athletic Conference.

Senior
Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) had a team-high nine kills for the Cougars. Fellow senior
Rachel Levitt (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) added eight kills. Junior
Julia Menhart (Augsburg, Germany/FOS Friedberg) recorded a match-high nine digs. Junior
Mia Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) pitched in four aces and no errors.

The Wolverines controlled the opening set from the start to take an early 1-0 advantage on the Cougars. Set two started back and forth with the Cougars gaining a 7-6 advantage following a UVU attack error. Then the Wolverines put together a 13-1 run to take control of the frame.

In the third, Chicago State grabbed a 12-5 lead thanks to two quick aces by Townsell. The Wolverines responded though, and eventually tied the score at 16. Utah Valley took their first lead of the set at 19-18 on a kill by Brookelyn Hall. Chicago State trailed 24-22 and denied a pair of UVU match points thanks to a kill by Sioto and an ace by Menhart. Back came UVU with back-to-back points to end the match.

Kalani Norris recorded a match-high 13 kills for UVU.

Utah Valley moves to 10-9 (4-1 WAC) while the Cougars are now 2-16 (0-4 WAC). Chicago State welcomes New Mexico State to town on Thursday for a WAC contest.
