Sioto and Podwell's Seven Kills Not Enough In CSU Volleyball's Loss At UW-Green Bay

Cougars start Texas two step with Houston Baptist on Thursday and UTPA on Saturday

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Chicago State women's volleyball was edged 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 26-24) in a non-conference road match at UW-Green Bay on Tuesday (Oct. 9) evening.
 
Chicago State led 13-11 in the opening set before falling behind due to an 8-1 Phoenix run.

The Cougars put together a valiant comeback in set number three. After falling behind by as many as six points, the Cougars chipped away at the deficit before turning away three straight Phoenix match points to knot the score at 24. UW-Green Bay took a timeout and responded with a block and a kill to finish the match in three sets.
 
Freshman Alyssa Podwell (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic) continued her steady play with her third consecutive match of seven kills. Junior Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo/Martin Methodist College) also had seven kills while picking up six digs and 13 assists.
 
Junior Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) recorded 21 digs.

The Phoenix won thanks to controlling the net with an 11-3 blocks advantage.
 
The win improves UW-Green Bay to 10-9. Chicago State falls to 2-19. The Cougars return to conference play on Thursday with a Great West Conference contest at Houston Baptist.
