CHICAGO - On a day when the Chicago Bears played the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chicago State women's volleyball team took on IUPUI Jaguars. The visitors from IUPUI defeated Chicago State 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-12).

“This was the toughest team we've played all year,” Chicago State head coach Bob Eskew said. “These are the type of teams we want to play to make ourselves better.”

Freshman Alyssa Podwell (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic) led the Cougars with a match-high seven kills and an ace. Sophomore Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo/Martin Methodist College) added 11 assists and six kills. Junior Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) recorded 11 digs for the Cougars.

The first set was the closest, with IUPUI holding just a three-point lead until using a 4-0 run late in the set put the Jaguars in control.

“We played with them early on but we had a couple mistakes that changed the game around,” Eskew said.

IUPUI benefited from a .365 attack percentage.

The Jaguars improve to 13-7. The Cougars are now 2-18. Chicago State travels to UW-Green Bay on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match against the Phoenix. It is the start of three road matches next week. The Cougars play at Houston Baptist on Thursday before playing at Texas-Pan American on Saturday.
