CHICAGO – Despite eight kills on a .333 hitting percentage from sophomore Kimberly Lindner (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) (Antigo, Wis./Antigo/Colby CC), Chicago State volleyball dropped a 25-12, 25-20, 25-19 non-conference contest at UIC on Tuesday (Oct. 23) evening.

Freshman Alyssa Podwell (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic) also added eight kills. Junior Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) finished with 14 digs.

While the Flames pulled away early in the opening frame, the following two sets were closer. A 6-2 Cougars run in the second set advanced CSU within three at 21-18. Lindner had two kills in the stretch. It was 23-20 when UIC put the set away thanks to consecutive points. The Cougars led the third 8-6 but their effort was hampered by a 7-0 UIC stretch. Much like the second set, the Cougars advanced within three points at 21-18 on a Lindner kill. However the Cougars couldn't put another run together to knot up the score.

Lindner's eight kills matches her career high that she set vs. Indiana State on Sept. 8.

UIC's MaryKate Imrie recorded 23 assists to help the Flames to the win. UIC is now 14-11. Chicago State falls to 2-24. The Cougars hit the road for a road contest at NJIT on Saturday. It will be the Cougars final regular season road match before closing the year with four consecutive home contests.
