OREM, Utah – Following a three-set loss to Utah Valley on Friday night, the Chicago State volleyball returned to UVU's court on Saturday (Oct. 20) to play a neutral site match against CSU Bakersfield. UVU's PE Building was just as unkind on Saturday as it was on Friday as the Cougars dropped a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-23) decision to the Roadrunners.
The Cougars were led offensively by freshman
Alyssa Podwell (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic) and her seven kills and three block assists. Sophomore
Angelica Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) also added seven kills while dishing out 15 assists, six digs and three block assists. Three Cougars finished with double-digit digs as Chicago State recorded 43 digs in the match.
While the Roadrunners took the match in three, the contest featured 20 ties and 10 lead changes. The Roadrunners were successful preventing the Cougars from putting scoring runs together as CSU Bakersfield sided out at a plus 60 percent clip in all three sets. The Cougars managed that in only the third set. Thus the third set was the tightest, with it tied as late as 19-19.
The win improves the Roadrunners to 11-11. The Cougars are now 2-23. Chicago State plays at UIC on Tuesday in a non-conference contest.
