Cougars Conclude Day Two of Iowa Invitational

Sydney Van Munster led CSU in kills in its final two matches at the Iowa Invitational, including nine kills against Loyola
CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball closed out the in-season tournament portion of its season Saturday with a pair of matches at the Iowa Invitational, held at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
 
CSU fell to former Summit League foe Oakland in three sets (25-21, 25-8, 25-20) to open the day before dropping another three-set contest in the tournament finale to Loyola by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-16.
 
Junior Sydney Van Munster (Hudsonville, Mich./Portland) (Hudsonville, Mich.) and senior Alexandra Mason (Beaverton, OR/Harper College) (Beaverton, Ore.) each recorded eight kills to lead CSU in the Oakland match. Freshman Angelica Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 14 assists and sophomore Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) tallied a match-best 13 digs.
 
Meghan Bray paced Oakland with a double-double of 11 kills and 10 digs.
 
Van Munster continued where she left off from the Oakland contest by leading the Green and White with nine kills versus Loyola, while junior Rachel Levitt (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) (Willow Springs, Ill.) added seven kills en route to claiming all-tournament team accolades. Townsell posted match high honors in digs with 14, and Brewer and fellow freshman Emily Kramolisch (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) (Bolingbrook, Ill.) tallied 13 assists apiece for the Cougars.
 
Natalie Pounovich and Mary Kate Styler led Loyola with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, and Vicki Wrobel posted a match-leading 34 assists.
 
CSU returns to action on Tuesday night as it heads to downstate Macomb for a non-conference match against rival Western Illinois with a start time of 7 p.m.
