TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Chicago State volleyball opened its 2011 schedule here this morning with the Quality Inn/ASICS Classic with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-9) defeat to host Indiana State at ISU Arena.
In her first-ever collegiate match, freshman Angelica Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind.) led CSU with nine assists and two service aces, while sophomore Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) added a team-leading eight digs. Senior middle blocker Alexandra Mason (Beaverton, OR/Harper College) (Beaverton, Ore.) also recorded four kills for the Green and White.
Leading Indiana State was junior Morgan Dall, who tallied a match-high 12 kills, and sophomore Monique Morris contributed 10 kills. Senior Shelbi Fouty dished out a match-best 27 assists and senior Kiya James recorded 13 digs.
The Cougars will take on Coppin State in their second contest of the Quality Inn/ASICS Classic later this afternoon at 4 p.m.
