VERMILLION, S.D. – Chicago State women's basketball kicked off a three-game road swing here this evening and battled tough against Great West Conference foe South Dakota, but the host Coyotes claimed a 66-56 win at the DakotaDome. USD improved its record to 17-10 (8-2), while the Cougars fell to 18-9 (9-1).
Senior Caila Desroches (Long Island, NY/Monroe CC) (Long Island, N.Y.) led the Green and White with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and added seven rebounds. Senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) scored 14 points with seven boards and three assists.
Junior Amber Hegge led South Dakota with a game-high 25 points, seven boards and six assists. Freshman Stacia Robertson added 12 points and junior Alexis Yackley scored 10 points.
The Cougars continue their road swing Monday evening with a GWC contest against defending conference champion North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D. The opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
