EDINBURG, Texas – Chicago State volleyball captured its first win in Great West Conference play this afternoon by defeating host Texas-Pan American in five sets (27-25, 16-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-12) at the UTPA Fieldhouse. The Cougars improve their season record to 2-26 (1-8), while the Broncs dropped to 7-22 (1-8) on the year.
Senior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Harare, Zimbabwe) tallied her third double-double of the season by recording a match-high 17 kills and added 12 digs, while senior Alexandra Mason (Beaverton, OR/Harper College) (Beaverton, Ore.) contributed 17 kills and a match-leading six blocks.
Junior Rachel Levitt (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) (Willow Springs, Ill.) recorded 13 kills, freshman Emily Kramolisch (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) (Bolingbrook, Ill.) produced a season-best 52 assists and sophomore Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) led the CSU defense with a career-high 31 digs.
Freshman Michelle McNamee led three UTPA players in double figure kills with 12. Senior Sarah Davis and freshman Diara Reynolds each contributed 11 kills, while freshman Shauna Miller dished out 44 assists and junior Juri Franzen posted a match-high 35 digs.
CSU heads back to the Jacoby Dickens Center for its home finale against Valparaiso Tuesday night with the first serve at 7 p.m. Mason and Maziveyi will be honored in a senior night ceremony during the evening.
