CHICAGO – The Chicago State volleyball team kicked off a Great West Conference weekend road swing Thursday night with a 3-0 (19-25, 17-25, 15-25) loss to host Utah Valley at The Activity Center in Orem, Utah.
The Wolverines improved to 12-6 (2-0) on the year with the win, while the Cougars dropped to 1-18 (0-3).
Senior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Harare, Zimbabwe) and freshman Angelica Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind.) led Chicago State's offense with eight kills and seven kills, respectively.
Sophomore Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) recorded a match-high 13 digs, while freshman Emily Kramolisch (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) (Bolingbrook, Ill.) posted a match-best 24 assists and added seven digs.
UVU was paced by senior Chelsey Heaps, who recorded a double-double of a match-high 11 kills and 10 digs. Senior Rachel Anderson tallied 22 assists and sophomore Patti Flagg notched 12 digs for the Wolverines.
CSU concludes its road swing Saturday afternoon in Grand Forks, N.D., against two-time defending GWC champion North Dakota with a start time of 5 p.m., central time.
