Cougars Open Homestand with 71-53 Win over Saint Xavier

Senior Tressa Beckel scored a game-high 23 points and a career-best six steals tonight against Saint Xavier

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's basketball team began a six-game homestand here tonight as it defeated visiting Saint Xavier by a score of 71-53 at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.

The CSU Cougars improved their season record to 7-8, while the SXU Cougars, ranked fifth in this week's NAIA Division I poll, fell to 10-6.

Senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) led the Green and White with a game-high 23 points and a career-high six steals.

Junior Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) added 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line, while senior Caila Desroches (Long Island, NY/Monroe CC) (Long Island, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 15 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end, and two blocked shots.

Senior Elana Wroten (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, and sophomore Jazzmyn Harvey (Chicago, Ill./Bellwood) (Chicago, Ill.) contributed eight points and four steals.

Freshman Jordan Brandt scored 11 points to lead SXU, while senior Shalonda Young and junior Marissa Young each posted 10 points.

CSU hosts Utah Valley at the Jacoby Dickens Center this Saturday afternoon in the Great West Conference opener for both teams with the tip-off set for 2 p.m.
