EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Chicago State University volleyball (0-15) opened a three-match slate this week here tonight with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-17) loss to host SIU Edwardsville (8-5) at the Valdabene Center in a non-conference matchup.
Freshman Anna Morgan (South Range, WI/Maple-Northwestern) (South Range, Wis.) paced CSU as she recorded four kills, while junior Alexandra Mason (Beaverton, OR/Harper College) (Beaverton, Ore.), sophomore Rashonda Woods (Chicago, IL/Simeon) (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill.) each added three kills.
Junior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.), in her first collegiate match at setter, produced a career-best 13 assists and freshman Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) tallied a match-best 11 digs.
SIUE was led by senior Sydney Winslow's match-high 17 kills and sophomore Sammi Minton's match-best 34 assists.
CSU returns to Great West Conference action on Thursday evening as it welcomes Houston Baptist to the Palos Courts, located on 12221 South Ridgeland Avenue in Palos Heights, Ill., for a start time of 7 p.m.
