CHICAGO – Senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) recorded a double-double of a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds as Chicago State (4-7) fell to visiting Auburn (5-6) in a tightly-contested women's basketball battle at the Jacoby Dickens Center this afternoon by a score of 67-63.
Beckel, who was named Great West Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, also recorded two assists, two blocked shots and two steals in addition to connecting on 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
Senior Caila Desroches (Long Island, NY/Monroe CC) (Long Island, N.Y.) tallied a season-best 15 points and eight rebounds, while fellow classmate Courtney Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) added 12 points and went 2-of-3 from three-point range. Junior Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) contributed nine points, five rebounds and five assists for the Cougars.
Freshman Tyrese Tanner led Auburn with 15 points that included going 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Sophomore Morgan Toles recorded 14 points and dished out a game-leading seven assists, while fellow sophomore Blanche Alverson posted 13 points. Senior Jordan Greenleaf grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Tigers.
The Cougars return from the Christmas break on Dec. 28 when they head to the state of Arkansas to battle Central Arkansas in Conway with a start time of 7 p.m.
