CHICAGO – The Chicago State volleyball team concluded its 2010 season Friday evening in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Great West Conference Tournament, held at CSU's Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
The Cougars (0-33), seeded seventh in the tournament, were defeated in three sets by second-seeded Utah Valley (21-10) by scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-13.
Junior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.) dished out a career-best 17 assists and nearly recorded a double-double as she added seven digs to pace the Green and White.
Freshman Anna Morgan (South Range, WI/Maple-Northwestern) (South Range, Wis.) posted five kills and two service aces, while junior Alexandra Mason (Beaverton, OR/Harper College) (Beaverton, Ore.) tallied four kills and senior Shandella Darring (Chicago, IL/Kentucky State) (Chicago, Ill.) recorded three kills in her final collegiate match.
Leading Utah Valley in the match was junior Chelsey Heaps, who recorded a match-best 10 kills, and senior Kayli Doxey added nine kills and two block assists.
Freshman Brookelyn Campbell recorded a match-leading 30 assists and senior Lanni O'Reilly had a match-high five service aces.
