CHICAGO – Junior Alexandra Mason (Beaverton, OR/Harper College) (Beaverton, Ore.) recorded a match-high eight kills to lead Chicago State as it finished the regular season this afternoon with a 3-0 (17-25, 16-25, 9-25) loss to Utah Valley in Great West Conference action at the Jacoby Dickens Center.
The Cougars dropped to 0-32 (0-12), while the Wolverines improved to 20-10 (9-3).
Junior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.) produced a career-high 15 assists, freshman Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) notched 10 digs and freshman Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill.) added seven kills for CSU.
Utah Valley was led by junior Chelsey Heaps and redshirt freshman Lindsay Barker with six kills apiece, and freshman Brookelyn Campbell dished out a match-best 18 assists. Senior Kathleen Stevens recorded a match-high 13 digs and three service aces.
Chicago State returns to action next week as it hosts the 2010 Great West Volleyball Championship at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. The Cougars, the tournament's seventh seed will face second seed Utah Valley in the quarterfinals Friday night at 7 p.m.
