Cougars Drop Great West Volleyball Battle at Utah Valley, 3-0

Freshman Anna Morgan recorded a match-best nine digs and eight assists in Thursday's Great West battle at Utah Valley

OREM, Utah – Chicago State volleyball continued its five-match road swing out here tonight as it dropped a 3-0 (25-7, 25-6, 25-16) decision to host Utah Valley in a Great West Conference match at The Activity Center. The Wolverines improved their season record to 11-8 (2-2), while the Cougars dropped to 0-20 (0-5) on the year.

 

CSU was led by freshman Anna Morgan (South Range, WI/Maple-Northwestern) (South Range, Wis.) as she nearly recorded her first collegiate double-double with a match-best nine digs and eight assists, while fellow freshman Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) added eight digs.

 

Freshman Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill.) added four kills, and juniors Alexandra Mason (Beaverton, OR/Harper College) (Beaverton, Ore.) and Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.) produced three kills apiece for the Green and White.

 

Senior Kayli Doxey recorded a match-high 11 kills to pace Utah Valley, who also received a pair of seven-kill efforts from juniors Chelsey Heaps and Jaicee Kuresa. Junior Rachel Anderson tallied a match-best 21 assists, sophomore Brookelyn Campbell posted 11 assists and freshman Patti Flagg amassed eight digs.

 

The Cougars travel to Texas next week for the final two matches of their current road swing beginning Thursday, Oct. 14 at Houston Baptist.
