CSU Falls to Great West Volleyball Leader North Dakota, 3-0

Mazvita Maziveyi tallied six kills, three blocks and two service aces against North Dakota

CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball closed out its four-match homestand this afternoon at the Jacoby Dickens Center with a 3-0 (11-25, 21-25, 15-25) defeat to Great West Conference-leading North Dakota. The Fighting Sioux hiked their season record to 17-5 (7-0) and the Cougars fell to 0-25 (0-9) on the year.

 

CSU was led by junior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.), who recorded six kills, three blocks and two service aces on the day. Freshman Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill.) also tallied six kills and two service aces, while senior Hanya Minta (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) (Eden Prairie, Minn.) produced 16 assists.

 

Sophomore Ronni Munkeby produced a match-best 12 kills and five blocks, and junior Devin Trefz notched 10 kills to pace North Dakota. Junior Erin Joki added nine kills and recorded a match-leading .667 hitting clip. Freshman Ellen Krueger dished out a match-best 39 assists and fellow classmate Erica Turner posted a match-high eight digs.

 

CSU takes a break from conference play on Tuesday night when it heads to Peoria, Ill., to battle Bradley with the first serve set for 7 p.m.
